This year’s CivEnex Civil Engineering Equipment show will showcase a number of “firsts” for Australian Pump Industries. CivEnex is Australia’s most extensive Civil Engineering field day and is held at the Sydney Dragway, Eastern Creek in May. The company will be showing for the first time its “breakthrough” 5,000 psi portable diesel drive steam cleaner.

Called the Aussie Hydrotek “Grease Buster”, the machine is designed to enable big items of plant to be easily serviced in the field.

“The combination of 5,000 psi pump pressure with 130°C steam, means that equipment can be cleaned off fast before routine services are carried out” said Australian Pump Product Manager, Hamish Lorenz.

“The machine is diesel powered and comes on a heavy duty “off road” trailer with the capacity to carry 1,000 litres of water. It is the onboard water supply that enables the machine to be completely independent” said Lorenz.

The unit was developed by Australian Pump Industries for mine sites where field maintenance of big items of plant is essential. The basis of the machine is a Hydrotek 5,000 psi hot water steam cleaner. The Model HSC50005D offers 5,000 psi pump pressure with 19 lpm flow providing loads of “grunt” to clean the gear off fast.

The machine has infinitely variable temperature controls from cold water all the way through to 130°C steam. The burner is a heavy duty Beckett system that is designed for mobile applications where dust and moisture can be an issue.

The 5,000 psi Hydrotek comes with a Spiralast™ heating coil with lifetime warranty (the first in the industry). A proprietary cold rolled process produces a larger bend radius in the coil which reduces wall thinning and flow restriction. Robotic, precision welds eliminate weak points in the coil. In burst testing the coil achieved results 40% higher than the industry standard.

“The Hydrotek is loaded with features but its major strength is its reliability in the field and its ability to deal with tough site conditions,” said Lorenz.

The machine is equipped with two Aussie Hydrotek stainless steel hose reels. One stores 30 metres of high quality ¾” low pressure supply hose to fill the on-board tank. The other reel, rated to 5,000 psi, can be fitted with up to 75 metres of double wire braid high pressure hose that enables the operator to move freely around large plant for fast cleaning.

The reel also saves the high pressure hose from becoming scuffed or abraded with the operator having the luxury of being able to use only the length he needs.

The machine is built into a 4.5 tonne GVM off-site, hot-dipped galvanised road trailer. The trailer is fitted with tandem AL-KO 2.5 tonne IRS torsion tube suspended axles, 15” white spoke wheels with off-road, mud pattern, tyres and checker plate mud guards. It has checker plate front and rear mounting decks, a heavy duty landing leg and two stabilizer legs. The trailer also features a 42 tonne hook and pintel military style draw bar.

Australian Pump will be displaying the machine for the first time at Civinex this year and working demonstrations will be carried out on plant in the Allied plant demonstration area.

Australian Pump is a member of the Allied Earthmovers Association and as such works closely with the owner/operator members to develop new products suitable for the earthmoving and construction industry.

“We think the ability of the machine to clean off plant as it leaves the site may also be a big benefit” said Lorenz. “The EPA has pretty tough penalties for contaminating highways with low loaders and tippers being targeted regularly. This machine gives the plant supervisor the opportunity to make sure those vehicles are cleaned before they leave the site area,” he said.

The machines can be leased or bought from Australian Pump Industries or authorised distributors. Some rental companies are showing interest in the possibility of renting them on an as required basis.

Australian Pump Industries will be on Site No 323A at Civinex with a wide range of trash pumps, pressure cleaners and submersible pumps! The Civil Contractors Club will be a big feature of the Aussie Pumps stand.
