Fire authorities around the country are warning of potentially catastrophic fires this season, due to the build up of fuel over the winter and spring periods.  Unseasonal high rainfall has led to a build up of material, with consequent serious danger for both urban and country communities.

Australian Pump Industries, Australia’s leading manufacturer of high pressure fire fighting pumps, stress the need to take action ahead of a potential fire storm.

“All you need are three days of 35 degree temperatures to see green turn to brown”, said 5 acre “blockie” home owner, Shellea Lorenz.  “An Aussie Fire Chief saved our log cabin four years ago, and we’re very conscious of the need to be prepared every summer”, she said.

Bush fires can be caused by lightning strikes, sparks from farm machinery, or electrical accidents like fallen power lines.  Protection can be provided to make properties fire ready, by following simple steps.

Domestic and farm buildings need two vital ingredients to effectively prepare for the oncoming bush fire season.  “You need a ready source of water, and an effective fire fighting pump like the Aussie Fire Chief”, said Shellea.

She stressed that choosing the right pump was critical as the unit without the inherent performance is verging on useless.  “We used the Fire Chief along side other brands owned by our neighbours.  They were astonished when they saw the way the Chief delivered the knockout blow to spot fires by literally drowning them”, she said.

Many consumers buy pumps based on the horsepower of the engine without any understanding of the actual performance characteristics.  Australian Pump claim the Aussie Fire Chief delivers more water at high pressure, making it ideal for bushfire protection duties.

The Fire Chief is a simple, robust high performance engine drive self priming pump, available in either single or twin impeller versions.  It boasts a whopping 500 litres per minute maximum flow and offers a delivery head, in the standard single impeller version, of up to 75 metres.  That’s more than 100psi.

The company claims the pump primes fast, delivering a record 7.6 metre vertical suction lift.  That provides the ability to draught water from creeks, streams, and wells and can be vital in a fire fighting emergency. “If the pump won’t prime, you can say goodbye to your property,” said Shellea.

The Aussie Fire Chief is used by the NSW Fire Brigade and many other Government departments and fire fighting authorities throughout the country.  The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service have been using them for years, and the product has been adopted in Europe, South East Asia and throughout the Pacific.

The company offers a unique 5 year power pump end warranty, an indication that the product is built without design or engineering compromise.  It features a huge big belly body with 7 ½” impeller that gets more water through the pump, faster than competitors.  That means more water can be thrown at the fire!

The big impeller is matched with a heavy duty volute with outstanding hydraulic characteristics.  The design is a result of years of engineering research and development.

The entire Aussie Fire Chief family, including the big twin impeller pumps, feature a 2” suction flange.  That big suction port means more water gets into the pump, allowing it to throw more water at a fire, than smaller 1 ½” port units. The flange suction port can be removed for easy service of the check valve, another design advantage.

Other features not found on competitor’s pumps, include steel skids with anti-vibration mounts, designed to provide a firm and secure base for the pump to operate from, and a conveniently located carry handle for ease of movement.

The Fire Chief can be powered by the petrol or diesel drive.  The standard petrol engine is a 5.5hp genuine Honda engine, with low oil protection.  Other Honda engine versions are available in up to 13hp for extra performance and engine longevity.

“Combining our 5 year pump head warranty with Honda’s 3 year industrial engine guarantee, means we can offer an exclusive 5 + 3 package to consumers, an absolute exclusive for the Aussie Pump product “, said Aussie Pumps’ product manager Brad Farrugia.

The company also offers a complete diesel powered range of fire pumps using quality Yanmar or Kubota diesel engines.
